  • 4 cups beef broth
  • 1 cup carrots, sliced
  • 1 cup potatoes, diced
  • 1 cup onions, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 1 cup milk

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, brown the beef cubes over medium heat.
  2. Add onions and garlic, sauté until soft.
  3. Stir in tomato paste, thyme, salt, and pepper.
  4. Add beef broth, carrots, and potatoes; bring to a boil.
  5. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 1.5 hours.
  6. Meanwhile, prepare the dumplings by combining flour, baking powder, and salt.
  7. Cut in butter and stir in milk until a soft dough forms.
  8. Drop spoonfuls of dough into the stew during the last 15 minutes of cooking.
  9. Cover and cook until dumplings are fluffy and cooked through.
